PRODUCTIVITY TIP - Keeping the Children Engaged...

Toy Box Today's Productivity Tip comes from Deb Walker of Contemporary VA:

"Put together a box of toys, games, and books that your children are only allowed to use when you are on the phone. Make sure these ideas are saved for “special” times (when you’re on the phone, or can’t give your child your full attention)... It always keeps them quiet for a few minutes for an important phone call"

PRODUCTIVITY TIP - You Have An Office... You Have A Kitchen...

Sandwich
...and each room has it's purpose!  Today's Productivity Tip comes from Roger Grant, Founder of RG2 Solutions:

"Don’t eat lunch in your office. Use this time to regroup and take a break. Why? Because if you do it right, working out of the house is constant work – no water cooler/cubicle talk, no walking across the building to the copier, etc. So you have to re-energize by getting out of the chair and out of that room."

PRODUCTIVITY TIP - How To End Your Day...

If you want to be as productive as possible, the best way to end your day is to set yourself up for the next day.

When you have about 20 minutes left in your office, stop what you're doing and complete the following tasks:

  • Clean up your desk and office space.  Anything that needs to be filed... file!
  • Anything that needs to be thrown out... throw out.
  • Enter your financials for the day.  How much you made and where.  How much you spent and where.
  • Revise your To-Do List for the next day you'll be in your office.

If you do this at the end of every day, you'll start each day ready to hit the ground running... with a clean desk and To-Do List ready to go!

PRODUCTIVITY TIP - How You SHOULDN'T Start Your Day...

image from miamiherald.typepad.com One of the worst ways to start your day is by checking your e-mail!

How many times did you come into your office with a solid plan, only to have it thrwarted by having to deal with something you discovered waiting for you in your Inbox?

Spend the first 30-45 minutes of your day getting the most important item(s) on your To-Do List done.  THEN, open up your Inbox and check your e-mail.

That way, even if you are taken off track by whatever is in there, you'll still have the critical tasks for the day completed!

PRODUCTIVITY TIP - The Most Important Part Of Your Office...

image from www.theexitdoor.net ...is the door!!!

Your professional life is separate from your personal life, and your professional space should be separate, as well.

A door allows you to shut out distractions, both visual and audible.  It allows you to focus on the tasks at hand, which makes you more productive.

Even if you don't have a solid door, any kind of divider (a curtain, standing shutters, etc.) will help maintain your boundaries and allow you to get more done in less time.

How do YOU keep your personal and professional lives separate?  Leave a comment below!
